As electric cars continue to become widespread, charging technologies are improving. Today, urban transportation is possible with 1-hour charges. However, with the increase in charging speeds for electric cars, usage is expected to explode. Lotus breaks a record in charging speed with the Emeya model.
Lotus Emeya travels 320 km in just 14 minutes
Lotus Emeya has set a new standard in electric vehicle charging speeds. According to research, it went from 10 percent to 80 percent battery capacity in just 14 minutes. This means it is the fastest charging electric car ever.
Tests conducted by an electric vehicle consulting company revealed that Emeya can draw 402kW of charging power. During the 10-80 percent charge level, it was able to maintain a charge rate of 331kW. This shows that Emeya can travel a range of about 320 km with just 10 minutes of charging.
Emeya, connected to a 400kW DC fast charger, seems to be unrivaled in this field. According to the tests, Xpeng G9 is in second place, reaching 320kW. Other models that support fast charging, such as the Porsche Taycan, were able to reach 80 percent in 16 minutes with 350kW chargers.
Lotus said it has developed an 800-volt battery platform for the Emeya. It also said it built battery thermal management specifically for the hypercar. Emeya’s performance also demonstrates the highest level of electric vehicle technology today.
As fast charging networks of 350kW and higher continue to expand, charging problems for electric cars will disappear. Lotus is also already developing 450kW chargers to fully utilize Emeya’s potential.
